At Reflective Learnings, we research, develop and apply the RACE-N© model (copyright registered by Nguyen Minh Tuan) to provide comprehensive support for career development strategies and plans. RACE-N© consists of 5 components: Reflect, Assess, Choose, Execute, and Navigate.

With the RACE-N© model, the word “RACE” symbolizes the image of a car speeding on a racetrack. The “N” (pronounced similarly to the word “End”) represents each individual’s career goal. Therefore, RACE-N© can be interpreted as “RACE to the N(end)” – meaning the race to career success. Additionally, “N” also signifies plurality to show that effective career development is a long race, and applying this model will help you design the most optimized path, both in terms of journey and speed (through various races).

Let’s explore RACE-N© together.

What stage of your career journey are you on? Let’s explore it together.

Reflect

This is the first step to help you better understand your characteristics and identify important and meaningful factors in your career. These insights are the foundation for building a suitable career development plan. In this step, you need to deeply reflect on yourself in various aspects: life values, strengths, weaknesses, interests, and past experiences.

Suggested Approach:

Take quality time and space to reflect and answer the following important questions:

Expectations:

• What life values are truly important to me, and how do they influence my career choices?

• What career path do I want to pursue?

Capabilities:

• What are my strengths, and what skills do I need to further develop to advance in my career?

• How can I learn and improve my abilities?

Motivation:

• What truly makes me feel passionate and energized when working?

• What do I want to achieve in the future, and what steps are necessary to get there?

Record results: Store and compare self-assessment results with feedback from others.

Evaluate the current social and economic context:

Suggested Approach

Set appropriate goals:

• Based on your abilities and qualities: Identify goals that align with your skills, capabilities, and personal traits. Ensure these goals leverage your strengths and address your weaknesses.

• Consider societal needs: Evaluate current social trends and labor market demands. Choose goals that are in demand and have growth potential.

• Aligned with your passion and aspirations: Make sure your goals reflect your true passion and aspirations to maintain motivation and inspiration at work.

Develop a strategy:

• Career research: Explore different career paths, including job changes, advancement in your current role, or simply acquiring new skills.

• Consider various paths: Compare options based on criteria such as growth potential, personal fulfillment, and the likelihood of achieving your goals.

Balance short-term and long-term goals:

• Long-term goals: Major objectives to be achieved within the next 5-10 years.

• Short-term goals: Smaller, more specific goals to be achieved within 1-2 years, which support the long-term objectives.
